The Forest’s Hibernation: or, Why I’ve Been so Lazy Lately
I feel like I haven’t been doing much work for the Forest lately. A lot of changes are abound in my life; I recently quit my job at the library, I’m in the middle of yet another move, and I’ve been feeling all around stumped. However, life is looking good. Winter is over, spring has begun. My mom is supportive of my decision run my own business and blog for a living, I am going back to school next fall for forestry classes, and we are moving into a new communal home with a little farm. Fear not, friends of the forest, my blog is going to be BIG this year!
Announcing…Two New Shops from The Forest!
Friends of the forest, I a very exited to announce the opening of two brand-new shops in the Forest:

Found on the Forest Floor is a virtual thrift shop full of vintage items with forest flair!
The Forest Library sells vintage forest and nature books.
Week in Photos
Hi, friends of the forest! Here’s a quick update of what I’ve been doing for the past few days.
Mostly working on new products for the Forest Shop, here’s a sneak peak of some materials…
I’ve been riding my bike through the woods to Main Street now that the weather’s getting better,
I spotted two cute kitties frolicking in the field on my ride…
Making plans to re-stock my shop. I want the Forest to become a household name,
with products ranging from clothing and accessory lines, to a Forest Foods division…
Missing the Motherlode!
I’m sad that my favorite thrift shop, The Motherlode had to shut down after only one year of business!
The Motherlode really made my part of town fun. I worked at the library across the field from this plaza, and I’ll always remember
the fun times I had hanging at the coffee shop with Neil, selling my crafts at their parking lot swap meet, and thrifting
on my lunch break! I got some of my favorite forest finds here…
My favorite thing about the Motherlode was their book loft! So many memories…the time I had my 1 year anniversary of being a librarian improptu party there, convincing Neil to start a ‘Forestry’ shelf, talking about starting a book club…
The shop had tons of secret passageways and hidden rooms. Here was a shot of Neil in his lookout office…
ah the good old days when we were all young professionals!
The owners would always greet me with a smile and a good deal on a forest figurine. They knew my love for vintage dresses, books and ceramic creatures and always gave me a discount! I’m so sad that the shop is closing, but perhaps they will find a better location. Either way, the town plaza will never be the same without them!
Forest Finds: Scoutin’ out the Squirrels
I found a stash of squirrels at the local thrift shops, yard sales and more these past few weeks…
Here are my favorite finds:
A vintage field guide and ceramic squirrel at the newest thrift shop in town, Thriftique!
When I went in the owners said “We were wondering when you would find us!”
Apparently I’m something of a thriftin’ VIP in my hometown… (if you ever come to Lake Elsinore, I will take you on a thrift tour!)
I have my thrift scouts on the front lines, finding the most foresty knickknacks to bring back to me. Ol’ R,
my boyfriend’s dad, found this squirrel planter at a yard sale for a quarter and sold it to me for 50 cents!
I now use it to store my tools.
Last but not least, I found a brand new never-before-opened official Home Depot squirrel feeder kit.
It was so hillbilly, I just had to buy it! Finally, something to store my Squirrel Feed in (recipe coming soon!)
Daily Outfit: Green Stripes & Woodgrain
dress: thrifted
belt: one I’ve had for years, dumpster dived
cardigan: basic brown jazzed up with buttons
sunglasses: 99 cent store
What I wore to work. I saw this dress in the Lord’s Closet and saved up the three dollars selling my old clothes at a yard sale.
It is a little bit big, so I cinched it with an old green belt. I can’t wait to wear this dress in the summertime down by the lake!
My friend David got me this Bambi watch at a thrift shop, I tried to match teal nail polish to it…
Ok, so the only woodgrain thing in this outfit is the ring.
I was going to wear my Finest Imaginary woodgrain fox necklace with it, too
but I’ll save that for summer….
Just a few of my forest pins. From littleoddforest and modcloth.com!
Shop Sale!
Friends of the forest, I’ve restocked my lil shop!
Forest Finds: In the Field
I make it my business to be an unofficial freelance forest ranger, walking through the fields picking up trash, cans and bottles. I make money from recycling the cans & bottles, and try to scavenge what I can for supplies to use in my arts or crafts. Who says one person’s trash can’t be anther’s treasure? I found some cool things on my walk through the field today:
A torn up science book with a redwood forest cover, a miniature fake tree, a Guinness bottle with a harp (I like the symbolism of it), a miniature mint green & wood grain station wagon (hey, we can sell that at a yard sale!), a sample of wood perfect, green glass (the poor forest girl’s emeralds) a tile with a leaf on it, a green marble, and a tube of Mary Kay Signature lipstick (I’ll scrape it out and fine a use for it…it’s kinda neat)
Friends of the forest, have you ever collected trash that was like treasure?
